Ever since creative director Miuccia Prada sent ultra mini-mini skirts down the runway for Spring-Summer 2022, fashion hasn’t been the same. Yes, we’re talking about the one you’ve seen all over your Instagram, TikTok, and Twitter feeds paired with an equally as exposed cropped top. The skirt has made its editorial debut on several magazine covers, and A-list fashion risk-takers like Hailey Bieber and Saweetie took it from the runway to real life. The dangerously meme-worthy style seems oh-so appropriate for hot girl summer, but it looks like you can expect to see the trend go into Fall courtesy of Diesel.
For his Fall-Winter 2022 collection and runway debut for the Italian label since becoming the Creative Director, Glenn Martens’s paraded several ultra mini skirts down the runway. Martens continues to dive into the Y2K era introducing the low-waisted silhouettes in the brand’s sought-after denim that would undoubtedly have gotten early 2000s Paris Hilton‘s approval. Other mini skirts in leather and sequined material completed the trendy range. The mini skirts were paired with other early aughts staples, including motorcycle jackets, abs-baring tank tops, and sexy cardigans.
Martens’s co-sign on the trend shows the mini skirt is here to stay, at least throughout the year.
