It’s time for the Twerkulator. Miami-based rap duo, The City Girls, announced that our favorite unreleased song is hitting streaming platforms on Friday, May 21. Yung Miami and JT have officially announced the rollout for their new single after mounting anticipation for the track. “Twerkulator” first went viral a few weeks back after a snippet from the song ended up on TikTok with a dance to boot. JT was under fire on Twitter last week for a cryptic tweet she made saying “good news.” Twitter users assumed this was a diss to Nicki Minaj because the tweet came out around the time Nicki announced the re-release of Beam Me Up Scotty. Fans now realize the good news was the approved release of “Twerkulator.” The song’s arrival comes after a battle of copyright. The rap duo samples “Planet Rock,” the 80s rap classic from Afrika Bambaataa and the Soulsonic Force, so getting the rights to the song took longer than expected.

Fans joked in the comments, excited that they “finally got that sample cleared.” After the announcement, JT tweeted “Thank you to our team for fighting hard, now we can shake a*s this summer!!!!!” TikTok has become the home of many popular unreleased songs and there’s no telling if its virality played a role in the final acceptance of the sample. With over 945,000 videos made to the snippet of the song, its popularity and notoriety spread further than the average City Girls listener.

The Miami duo continues to make a name for themselves while staying true to their outspoken personalities. The City Girls released their second album City On Lock this time last year, which contained another viral smash “P*ssy Talk,” featuring Doja Cat. Recently the pair teamed up with Icon Swim for a new collection, just in time for the hottest season. The summer-friendly set is dropped in late May and is filled with Miami-style swimsuits and coverups so “Twerkulator” is hitting streaming services right in time for a City Girl summer.
