The King might’ve left the building, but thanks to Austin Butler’s captivating performance as Elvis Presley in Baz Luhrmann’s 2022 biopic, the musician is continuing to pique our interest. Yet, the point that continues to persist is the Academy Award nominee’s subsequent adaptation of the musician’s signature Southern drawl.
Butler’s voice undergoing a complete metamorphosis has been the subject of think pieces, internet chatter and even mocked by the actor himself during his debut Saturday Night Live monologue. Now, two years after Butler brought “The Memphis Flash” to the silver screen, Cindy Crawford has weighed in on the neverending accent.

When asked by the patriarch of the Bravo universe, Andy Cohen, what her “take” on Butler’s newfound Tennessee tone was on Watch What Happens Live, Crawford said, “That’s Austin to me”. “I didn’t know that he was from Anaheim,” she continued, referencing Butler’s Southern Californian roots. “He spent so long being Elvis that I think it just stuck.”
Crawford also added that she didn’t know him prior to the film, so hearing him speak with that cadence is all she’s familiar with. For the uninitiated, Crawford’s supermodel daughter, Kaia Gerber, has been dating Butler since soft-launching their relationship by attending a yoga class in late 2022.

The 32-year-old was seen in a family photo with Gerber’s brother, Presley, her father, tequila magnate Rande Gerber, and Crawford at Celine’s Winter 2023 show at The Wiltern.

Crawford also was asked about the one fashion designer she hopes to never work with again, answering with a very diplomatic response as she’s “only ever worked with the good ones”. Watch the entire segment, below.
