Austin Butler has become a household name thanks to his critically-acclaimed, award-winning performance in Baz Luhrmann’s Elvis. While Butler had made headlines in the past thanks to a high-profile relationship with Vanessa Hudgens, since becoming a bonafide film star the actor has been dating Kaia Gerber, model and daughter of Cindy Crawford, since late 2021.

December 2021
A month after Kaia Gerber’s split from Euphoria star Jacob Elordi, rumours start to swirl after Daily Mail snap Austin Butler and Kaia Gerber exiting a yoga class together in Los Angeles. They then drive away together. A few weeks later, sources tell Us Weekly that the pair are “low-key dating. It’s still very new.” Later in the month, they’re seen arriving at LAX together.
February 2022
The couple are spotted in London by Just Jared, having a romantic Valentine’s weekend together and grabbing coffee in town.
March 2022
Daily Mail again spots Austin Butler and Kaia Gerber together, this time in Paris after Paris Fashion Week, which Gerber modelled for OFF/WHITE. Earlier in the month the couple were seen in New York, and towards the end of March they attended their first celebrity event together – well, sort of. Paparazzi spotted Butler and Gerber exiting the W Magazine pre-Oscar’s party together, although they did arrive separately. Still, W shared a photo of them in an embrace from the event.
April 2022
Austin Butler and Kaia Gerber’s relationship timeline gets serious in April, when paparazzi snap the pair holding hands at a Malibu farmer’s market.
May 2022
The moment we had all been waiting for – Austin Butler and Kaia Gerber make their red carpet debut, affirming rumours about their relationship. Attending the Met Gala, Gerber and Butler posed for photographs and looked deeply in love. Meanwhile, exes Vanessa Hudgens, Pete Davidson and Jacob Elordi were all present on the red carpet as well. If it was awkward, the couple never showed it – they seemed totally smitten.
In late May Gerber supported her boyfriend at the 2022 Cannes Festival for the premiere of Elvis, walking the red carpet in Celine.
July 2022
While Austin Butler told W Magazine in May that he didn’t want to talk about his relationship, eagle-eyed fans noticed that in his photo shoot for VMan, released in July, that Kaia Gerber had made a secret cameo.

September 2022
Kaia Gerber turned 21 and celebrated with friends, but Austin Butler was noticeably absent. Entertainment Tonight said that while plenty of stars were in attendance, including “Billie Eilish, Finneas O’Connell, Camila Morrone, Evan Ross, Paris Jackson, Roddy Ricch and Madison Beer,” the Elvis star couldn’t make it last-minute – but it didn’t bother Kaia, who “was having an amazing time.”
The same month, the ten-year age gap between Austin Butler and Kaia Gerber came under scrutiny after a throwback photo of Gerber meeting Butler’s ex-girlfriend, Vanessa Hudgens, went viral. The photo from 2007 shows a six-year-old Gerber meeting Hudgens at a Disneyland event, highlighting the age between the stars.
January 2023
While Kaia Gerber didn’t walk the red carpet with Austin Butler at the 2023 Golden Globe Awards, she was snapped backstage congratulating her boyfriend on winning Best Actor for his role in Elvis. Gerber wore a sheer black dress for an after party event, and was pictured walking out hand-in-hand with Butler.
February 2023
Gerber and Butler attended another event together – actually, another W Magazine event. This time, it was the 2023 Annual best Performances Party, with Butler in attendance for Elvis, of course. The couple posed for photos together and wore matching black – Kaia Gerber in a modern naked dress, Austin Butler in a black silk shirt and suit. According to Page Six, the couple were making out all night.
