It’s been 40 years since the designer and impeccably dressed society fixture Carolina Herrera took over the Upper East Side’s Metropolitan Club to stage her first collection, at once ushering in a new wave of New York fashion with her glamorous joie de vivre. “Ever since then this city has been our home,” creative director Wes Gordon, who took the helm of the brand in 2018, said this morning. “We’re not going anywhere; the city is not going anywhere.”

There was proof of that in the label’s Fall 2021 video, which was released this morning. In it, a handful of models, including Alek Wek, board a bright red, double decker tour bus in Times Square, pose in Madison Avenue’s One Vanderbilt skyscraper, and waltz around a snowy Empire State Building Observatory—all the while outfitted in some seriously swoon-worthy ensembles (think: floor-grazing gowns; sequins galore).

“This season was really about commitment and love,” Gordon continued. “A commitment and love to the city, a commitment and love to fashion, a commitment and love to each other, a commitment and love to ourselves—because truly I think there’s nothing that we need more right now than love, and to remember that.” That sentiment was translated to hearts—and lots of them—in the form of gold buttons, sequin embellishments, oversized waist belts, and even on pumps, little leather bags, and door-knocker earrings. Consider it an ode to New York—the Herrera way.
