Ralph Lauren unofficially kicked off New York Fashion Week on September 9 with his Spring 2027 collection, offering a new interpretation of one of fashion’s oldest ideas: romance.
“Spring 2027 is an irreverent take on romance that creates a new elegance,” Lauren explained in the show notes. “It’s about ways of dressing that celebrate ingenuity, originality, and character—the freedom and fun of creating a style that is truly personal.”
That freedom came through in a collection that played constantly with the codes of rugged American sportswear and polished evening dressing. Navy and white provided a crisp foundation, but silhouettes were anything but conservative. Pants dominated, particularly voluminous, slightly low-slung styles, worn with slim jackets and dramatic waistcoats. Even classic seersucker was transformed into statement tailoring.
Lauren also made a convincing case for the return of romantic detailing. A denim workwear jacket erupted into white feathers, distressed jeans were paired with elevated separates and a boned, lace-up cotton shirt offered a stripped-back alternative to the corset trend.
There were plenty of references to Ralph Lauren history. A wide necktie nodded to the accessory that helped launch the designer’s career nearly 60 years ago, while two sharply constructed pantsuits paid homage to the first suit Lauren designed for women.
For evening, things became softer and more experimental. A fluid wrap dress was engineered from a single seam, while a navy micro-sequin tank dress dissolved into fringe over trousers. Elsewhere, embroidered velvet, painted denim and aged-looking silk brought an artisanal quality to the collection.
Accessories followed the same relaxed approach. Shoes remained predominantly low-heeled, while variations of the house’s Ralph Bag appeared alongside the new, roomy Madison Bag.
The takeaway? For Spring 2027, Ralph Lauren’s version of romance isn’t about dressing like everyone else. It’s about having the confidence to make the clothes entirely your own.
