When Cameron Diaz stepped onto the purple carpet at the Berlin premiere of Back in Action last night, it marked a momentous occasion: the end of a ten-year hiatus from Hollywood—and a new sartorial era, perhaps.
For her much-anticipated return, Diaz eschewed the over-the-top glamour of her blockbuster heyday for a look that exuded the grungy sophistication of her host city. Opting for a black-on-black look by Gucci, the actress wore high-rise baggy jeans in a deep wash paired with a sheer blouse and penny loafers that provided a versatile base for the star of the look: a sweeping tailored wool coat adorned with the house’s signature monogram.

Adding a pop of colour, her bold red lip, dewy blush and softly tousled ponytail gave the look a touch of timeless Hollywood allure.

The premiere marked Diaz’s first since Annie in 2014, after which she famously retired from acting.
For a star who once commanded the screen in films ranging from the irreverent Charlie’s Angels to the pathos of My Sister’s Keeper, her decade-long absence has seen her focus shift to raising her daughter with husband Benji Madden and co-founding Avaline, a natural wine brand.
Diaz reflected on the decision to step back from the Hollywood rat race during an October 2024 interview.
“I had to reclaim my own life,” she told W Magazine. “It wasn’t about anyone else’s expectations or offers. It was about what I truly wanted—building a family and focusing on what brought me joy.”

Back in Action, a Netflix espionage comedy in which Diaz reunites with her Annie co-star Jamie Foxx, marks her first project since her self-imposed hiatus. In the film, Diaz and Foxx play CIA agents pulled out of retirement—much like Diaz herself—after their identities are exposed.
In an exciting new chapter, we may see more of Diaz on screens and red carpets again, with rumours swirling that she will reprise her role as Fiona in the long-awaited Shrek 5 and join an ensemble cast for Apple TV+’s Outcome.
