Brunello Cucinelli FW21, knit, knitwear

Cozy knitwear has undeniably become a staple in our wardrobes amid the coronavirus pandemic. While adapting to this new way of dressing, one of the challenges many of us have faced is toeing the line of casual comfort and put-together elegance. Matching sweatsuits and cardigans have become a Zoom meeting favorite, but it’s hard to envision our work-from-home silhouettes becoming a part of our post-pandemic wear. You know, the type of outfit we’ll eventually wear for a well-dressed day on the town when our social lives are reinstated.

The idea of fusing comfort and elegance was the idea behind Brunello Cucinelli’s Fall 2021 Womenswear Ready-to-Wear collection debuted during Milan Fashion Week. The Italian luxury label embraced the fashion house’s tradition of creating top-quality knitwear via a ready-to-wear collection aptly entitled “The Touch of Knit.” The line was born to redefine rigid standards of dressing by showcasing ensembles that are just as fit for a Zoom call at home paired with sneakers as they are a professional interview in the boardroom teamed with heels.

Cucinelli debuted his Fall 2021 womenswear presentation via a video presentation produced in Solomeo, Italy, and released on Wednesday, February 24. To showcase the 33-piece line, models donned neutral-toned face masks that pair perfectly with the label’s timeless, soothing color scheme of grey, cream, beige, and golden brown. Women don lightweight French terry blazers, softly shaped trousers, pull-on skirts, and cashmere puffers—a lineup of fibers born to look and feel good. Perhaps the most significant takeaway from the presentation is that easing out of our cozy work-from-home silhouettes is a marathon, not a sprint. That said, Cucinelli’s F21 collection is the most practical way of experiencing luxury without sacrificing comfort. “People want to look well, not pretentious or—God forbid!—showy,” Cucinelli says in an interview. “Just at ease with themselves and good looking, elegant. They can’t wait to put their ties and well-cut suits back on.”
