In the interview we did not see coming, Brad Pitt has opened up and candidly discussed everything from sobriety to depression in the wake of his divorce from Angelina Jolie. Speaking with GQhe was also quick to mention retirement from acting after 36 years and 158 titles to his name.

“I consider myself on my last leg, this last semester or trimester,” Pitt told the publication. “What is this section gonna be? And how do I wanna design that?”

Hailing from Missouri, Pitt relocated to Los Angeles at 22. His first acting credit was in 1987 for the television series Hunk before he dabbled in small roles on TV for several years. He scored his first major movie role in 1991 as ‘J.D.’ in Thelma & Louise before going on to star in blockbusters such as Fight Club, Oceans Twelve, The Big Short, and more recently, Once Upon a Time… in Hollywood. He has also produced for projects such as Ad Astra and Vice.

While Pitt is confident in his decision to retire, he noted to the magazine that it will certainly be an adjustment. “I’m one of those creatures that speaks through art. I just want to always make. If I’m not making, I’m dying in some way,” he said. Be right back, about to watch every Brad Pitt film.

The 58-year-old also revealed that in light of an intense custody battle with his ex-wife, with whom he shares six children, he has been hiding out in his Hollywood Hills home as a “lone wolf.” “I always felt very alone in my life, alone growing up as a kid, alone even out here, and it’s really not till recently that I have had a greater embrace of my friends and family,” he added.

Pitt joined in on a conversation with Gwyneth Paltrow recently for her wellness blog Goop to discuss their relationship 25 years after they split. When reflecting on their long friendship, he concluded, “And I do love you.” Paltrow responded, “I love you so much.”
