Between the year 1994 and 1997, Gwyneth Paltrow and Brad Pitt were the Hollywood couple, cementing themselves forever as icons when they chose to wear matching haircuts to The Devil’s Own premiere (is that you Kim and Pete?!). While they eventually split after a short engagement, the former couple have remained as friends with the actor making a cameo on the Goop blog to discuss their relationship over two decades later.

In honour of Father’s Day in the US, Pitt recalled his close bond with Paltrow’s father, Bruce. “[He] really fostered your voice, your independence. He carved the way for you guys to be who you are,” Pitt explained. “And I think that’s so important to parenting, you know? So the child is free to find out who they are and what they love and what they don’t. You guys were just so free in your conversations. And witty. And intelligent. And funny as f**k.”

Paltrow went on to marry Coldplay member Christ Martin in 2003 and have two children, Apple, who is now 18 and Moses, 16. The couple announced their surprise split in 2014 before she remarried to writer Brad Falchuk.

In reminiscing about that time, the Once Upon A Time star reflected on their journey. “Oh man, everything works out, doesn’t it?,” he asked, to which the actress replied, “Yes, it does. I finally found the Brad I was supposed to marry. It just took me 20 years.”

“And I do love you,” he noted to his friend. Paltrow responded, “I love you so much.” Be right back, we’re just screaming internally.

Pitt went on to marry Jennifer Aniston before they divorced in 2005. He then wed Angelina Jolie in 2014 with whom he shares six children with before they underwent (and are still experiencing) a very messy split.
