Alessandra Rich always wants you to be a lady. At last year’s September show in Paris, the Italian-born, British-based designer gifted each showgoer with a quiz. “Discover how ladylike you are with this quiz!” it read, both impish and playful. Three “ladies” were presented: “Totally Ladylike,” “A New Ladylike” and “Rebel Ladylike.” We think Beyoncé may be all three.

Wearing one of Rich’s famous tweed twinsets over the weekend, the singer took a little from column A, a little from column B and a lot from column C (naturally). There was the sovereign structure of “Totally Ladylike.” The luxurious tweed, deep square neckline and crystal buttons of the jacket, for example, were utterly prim and proper.
Then there was the nouveau lady; polished yet modern; this was manifest in the skirt’s abbreviated hemline and fun, neon take on the classic slingback pump (also Alessandra Rich). And of course, “Rebel Ladylike,” a breed of ladylike Beyoncé does very, very well: subversive glamour with a lot of glitz (read: Rich’s Crystal Circle Earrings and Crystal Chain Choker along with some very sparkly sunglasses).
Trust Beyoncé and Alessandra Rich – two women with glamour at their very core – to take a classic black twinset and turn it on its head in the most fabulous way possible. Because who doesn’t want to be this kind of lady?
