It sounds like Zoë Kravitz landed her dream role when she was cast as Catwoman in the new film The Batman, which she stars opposite of Robert Pattinson, who plays the titular character.

“I’ve always loved the character of Selena Kyle,” the actress, 33, told Entertainment Weekly. “Especially as someone who didn’t grow up reading a lot of comic books, I think she’s really special because she kind of transcends that world.”

“She’s such a complex character,” the brunette beauty, who previously voiced Catwoman in 2017’s The Lego Batman Movie. “She breaks a lot of rules. It’s the gray area; people don’t know if she’s good or bad, and I think that’s a really important space for women to be able to occupy.”

Though there might have been some challenging situations while filming, Kravitz is happy she gave it her all. “Watching [director] Matt [Reeves] put everything he had into this movie, all I wanted to do was show up and help him accomplish what he set out to make,” she noted.

Kravitz wanted to get into Catwoman’s head so badly that she resorted to doing some weird things.

While talking to Jimmy Fallon on his late night show, he said, “If I was cast as Catwoman … I would study cats, I would drink milk out of a bowl.”

Kravitz replied, “I did that.” But Fallon couldn’t believe it, asking, “You drank milk out of a bowl?”

The Big Little Lies alum said, “Maybe. I’m method, dude!” She also revealed she “hung out with cats a lot” in order to prep for the role. “They don’t care,” she said of the furry creatures. “They were the hardest thing to control during the shooting. We were doing crazy stunts and all that was fine, but then getting a cat to stay in one place? Impossible.”

“They tried to get me to know the cats that were Selina’s cats, and it’s funny, they would say, ‘Training at 1:30, and then rehearsal at this time, and then cat time,’ and I was like, ‘What’s cat time?’ And it was just putting me in a room with a bunch of cats, the cats that were going to be my cats. But the cats didn’t care … it did nothing,” she quipped.
