Former US President Barack Obama has revealed the music artists he is listening to this American summer.

“Over the past few months, I’ve spent a lot of time listening to music with my family. I wanted to share some of my favorites from the summer –– including songs from some of the artists performing at this week’s @DemConvention,” he wrote on social media on Monday. “As always, it’s a mix of genres that travels through various eras. I think there’s something in here for everybody––hope you enjoy it.”

And, just like Phoebe Waller-Bridge’s Fleabag was one of Obama’s favorite television shows, there’s a few surprises in the mix like Megan Thee Stallion, Dua Lipa, Bad Bunny, and the late Mac Miller. But I guess, the more we have gotten to know the Obamas outside the White House, the more we understand that they do indeed enjoy dancing. (I would have been dead had the 59-year-old Democratic leader listed Cardi B and Megan Thee Stallion’s “WAP.”)

Obama also starred the artists who will be performing at the 2020 Democratic National Convention which begins on August 20. These include Billie Eilish, Leon Bridges, The Chicks (formerly the Dixie Chicks), John Legend, Common, Billy Porter, Maggie Rogers and Jennifer Hudson.

The list is a welcome albeit short reprieve from Obama’s heavier posts regarding November’s election. Just yesterday – in a rare rebuke against President Donald Trump – Obama told his former campaign manager David Plouffe on a podcast that he “worries” about protecting the integrity of the election process amid a pandemic, specifically Trump’s reluctance to properly fund the US Postal Service, making it difficult for Americans to vote.

“What we’ve seen in a way that is unique to modern political history is a president who is explicit in trying to discourage people from voting,” Obama said. “What we’ve never seen before is a president say, ‘I’m going to try to actively kneecap the Postal Service to encourage voting and I will be explicit about the reason I’m doing it,’” he added. “That’s sort of unheard of, right? And we also have not had an election in the midst of a pandemic that is still deadly and killing a lot of people, and we still don’t know the long-term side effects of contracting the illness.”

Trump has baselessly stated that the mail-in voting system will lead to voter fraud.
