In the second season of Fleabag, the title character tries to give up sex — and then meets a priest she desires. “She had to change in some way, between the two seasons,” Phoebe Waller-Bridge says.

Barack Obama has always been up with the play: He’s the man who dances at Beyoncé concerts, watched Game of Thrones, raps to Drake and literally dropped the mic at his last White House Correspondents’ dinner, after all.

But one thing we weren’t expecting from the former US President was an admission of watching the biggest standout show of 2019: Fleabag.

While rounding up his favourite books and movies of the year – something he’s started doing annually – Obama included the hit BBC comedy’s second season in an additional section at the bottom of his list, dubbed “TV shows that I considered as powerful as movies.”

Of course, when you consider how many awards Phoebe Waller-Bridge, Fleabag‘s creator and star, racked up at this year’s Emmys, it’s clear that Obama would have the show on his radar. But the very instant his list went live, Fleabag fans everywhere had just one thought pop to mind: “Oh My God, Obama has seen it.”

In the very first episode of Fleabag – which the former POTUS would’ve naturally watched prior to delving into the show’s second season – Fleabag, played by Waller-Bridge, is caught masturbating in bed to a video of Obama giving a speech.

That’s right. Obama watched Fleabag watching him… while masturbating.

Naturally, fans of the show were quick to come to the shockingly hilarious realisation, taking to Twitter with their thoughts:

What a way to end the year.
