“Sk8er Boi” singer Avril Lavigne and musician Mod Sun are engaged — and he popped the question in the most romantic fashion.
Mod Sun got down on one knee on March 27 on a boat coasting down the Seine River in Paris, complete with champagne, a violinist, roses and the twinkling Eiffel Tower lights, according to photos the couple shared on Instagram.
Dating for over a year now, the two ironically began their romance while collaborating on Lavigne’s latest album dubbed, Love Sux.
Lavigne told People she planned on taking a break from dating when she met her now-fiancé. “I was getting out of a big relationship, and for the first time in my life, I thought I should probably be single,” she said. “I got together with [Mod Sun] to write a song. We just clicked. I was like, ‘Should you be doing this?’ It was fun and exciting, and I decided, ‘F— it. Life’s short.’ I’m a Libra. I love love.”
According to the outlet, Mod Sun proposed with a custom heart-shaped ring from XIV Karats in Beverly Hills, with a royal setting featuring little hearts, a pavé diamond band and the words “Mod + Avril” and “Hi Icon” engraved inside, a nod to the first words he ever told Lavigne when they first met.
In the interview, Lavigne said Mod Sun knew she had her heart set on the design because “on the day we met, we had matching heart-shaped paved rings on. We’ve worn them every day since, so its only fitting to have a heart-shaped engagement ring. I love it so much.”
Mod Sun captioned his carousel of images on Instagram with a poem reading, “The day we met I knew you were the one. Together forever til our days are done. I had a dream where I proposed in Paris. I pulled out a ring + asked you to wear it. I was on one knee as I looked in your eyes. You’re too beautiful for my words to describe. I grabbed your hand + took one last breath…I said, “will you marry me?” + she said “yes”. I love you Avril ❤️.”
We’re adding Lavigne and Mod Sun’s future nuptials to the list of pop-punk weddings coming up, including Kourtney Kardashian and Blink-182 rocker Travis Barker who are set to officially tie the knot (again) after their Las Vegas wedding, as well as Megan Fox and Machine Gun Kelly, who got engaged in January.
