Ariana Grande has been preparing for the upcoming film adaptation of Wicked and has a new bright blonde ponytail to prove it. She’s set to star as Glinda, the famous blonde Good Witch of the North, and Grande just shared a selfie showing that she ditched her signature brunette tresses in favor of lighter strands.

On Wednesday, the Positions artist posted a new photo with her 336 million Instagram followers, revealing her latest hair transformation. “New earrings,” she captioned the selfie of her side profile, showing off some dainty gold and pearl baubles and her newly lightened locks. While much of her face is out of view, the singer’s eyebrows seem to be tinted to match her new ‘do.

This is far from the first time Grande has forayed into the blonde color palette. Who could forget her platinum ponytail from the 2018 Sweetener days?

Lately, the R.E.M. Beauty founder has been working on the film in London alongside her co-star Cynthia Erivo, who will portray Elphaba. Earlier this month, the star shared a carousel on Instagram with various images from life behind-the-scenes, including a snap of herself and Erivo during what looks like a rehearsal (where her brown hair was still intact!).

The musical will be directed by Jon M. Chu for Universal and is set to hit theaters during the 2024 Christmas season. In April, production announced they would be breaking the story up into two films, with the sequel due to release one year later.

It’s based off the Broadway musical Wicked which is still running on The Great White Way after 18 years on stage. A prequel to the Wizard of Oz, the show’s description reads, “There is a young woman, born with emerald-green skin — smart, fiery, misunderstood and possessing an extraordinary talent. When she meets a bubbly blonde who is exceptionally popular, their initial rivalry turns into the unlikeliest of friendships, until the world decides to call one good and the other one wicked.”
