Don’t call it a comeback, but Anne Hathaway is having a style renaissance. The actress has been stepping out in more bombshell silhouettes throughout the last year, and many of those stop-and-stare moments were courtesy of Versace.

At last year’s South by Southwest (SXSW) film festival, the star slipped into a slinky chainmail creation from the Italian fashion house, then wore a Versace black corseted puffer coatdress at the 2023 Sundance Film Festival in January. Just last month, she made headlines again for her look at the Versace Fall/Winter 2023 runway show.

Now, fittingly, Hathaway is the face of the brand’s new campaign, Versace Icons. The collection is a curated assortment of style staples, inspired by Versace’s signature tailoring and the house’s decades of experience dressing powerful women.

The Devil Wears Prada star is photographed by Mert Alas and Marcus Piggott wearing a sculpted black bustier-style top with gold Medusa hardware on the straps, plus high-waisted blue jeans with a gold-buckled black belt and a leather jacket thrown over her shoulders.

In another image, Hathaway wears a black jersey cowl-neck dress with gold Medusa detailing on the straps, teamed with black leather opera gloves. She models a chic trench coat, a fitted black grain de poudre suit (as often seen on Donatella), and a glittering LBD that Hathaway says reminds her of the 1987 film Moonstruck.

Hathaway shared a first look at the new campaign on social media, writing, “When the brilliant and talented @donatella_versace approached me for this campaign, she shared her vision of a timeless collection with the trademark @versace edge. She said she wanted to focus on pieces designed to be a cherished part of one’s wardrobe, enjoyed outside the trend cycle, worn again and again throughout your life. I thought it was a fantastic idea, and I am so proud, grateful and thrilled to find myself newly included in the iconic @versace family.

She added, “Now I’m gonna go enjoy these sexy jeans. 🧷⚡️👖🖤.”

Donatella also expressed her excitement of working with Hathaway on Instagram. “I am thrilled to be launching the Versace Icons collection; this is very personal to me. The multi-faceted and inspirational women we dress talk about how Versace makes them feel: considered, confident and stunning,” she wrote. “Anne Hathaway stars in the campaign and is the most amazing Versace woman. I am a huge fan of her work, of course, but more than that, I admire her as a woman. She is a huge star, she is a businesswoman, she is creative, and she is exceptionally kind. That is what makes a Versace Icon!”

In a separate post, Donatella shared a video of the two women working behind-the-scenes on the shoot, chatting about the character Hathaway portrayed in the shoot, describing her as “mysterious” and “a little bit dangerous – dangerous but sexy.”

Donatella captioned the footage, “Working with Anne on the set of the Versace Icons campaign was so inspirational. You see what a talent she is and how she brings the collection to life. Versace has a long history of collaborating with some of the biggest stars in the world and, for me, the star makes the dress, but the dress also makes the star.”

She continued, “On set you can see Anne being all these different characters, but she is also being authentically herself. The best version of herself in Versace, of course! @annehathaway you are so professional, and I am so happy you are a part of our family.”

Considering Versace’s storied legacy dressing the most famous musicians of the day, we’re crossing our fingers that we see Hathaway wearing the brand in her forthcoming film Mother Mary. The movie will be an “epic pop melodrama,” following the story of a fictional musician, portrayed by Hathaway, and her relationship with an iconic fashion designer, played by Michaela Coel.
