Angelina Jolie and Halle Berry are joining forces to co-star in the upcoming global action thriller, Maude v Maude. As veterans of the female-led action genre with careers spanning three decades, it’s a wonder these two Hollywood juggernauts haven’t worked together before.

The film has sparked insatiable interest — Deadline reported that a multi-studio bidding war ensured into the weekend, with Warner Bros ultimately landing the project. Director Roseanne Liang has signed on to the film, adapted from Scott Mosier’s script. Jolie and Berry will also produce the film alongside Berry’s producing partner Holly Jeter under their banner HalleHolly, and RK Films. Mosier and Liang will executive produce.

While the plot remains tight under wraps, the movie has been described as a “Bond vs. Bourne” type of action-packed blockbuster.

A Bond girl herself, Berry starred as Jinx in the 2002 James Bond film Die Another Day, after starring as Storm in the X-Men superhero franchise. Other action credits include her role as Catwoman in the eponymous 2004 film, Sofia Al-Azwar in 2019’s John Wick: Chapter 3 – Parabellum and most recently, a star MMA fighter in the 2020 movie Bruised.

Jolie has starred at the titular special operative in 2010’s Salt, an assassin in 2005’s Mr. & Mrs. Smith, as well as originating the role of Lara Croft in Lara Croft: Tomb Raider.

While the two have never worked together, Berry starred in 2001’s Monster’s Ball with Billy Bob Thornton, Jolie’s then-husband at the time, earning her the 2002 Academy Award for Best Actress.

We’re ready to see some badass secret agents and special operatives.

Other than Maude v Maude, Jolie has the third film of the Maleficent franchise in pre-production, while Berry has the sci-fi adventure movie The Mothership coming out this year.
