Still from Amanda Gorman’s “A New Day’s Lyric” poem

The moment American Poet Amanda Gorman was introduced to the world at President Joe Biden‘s Inauguration, the Youth Poet Laureate has catapulted into renowned fame. Gorman’s harmonious words and rhymes aren’t the only things that 23-year old admirers look to her for. While our ears listen to each emotional word Gorman speaks, our eyes are certainly fixated on her statement-making looks. Gorman, who with no surprise landed on GRAZIA’s Top 50 Stylish Americans list, embraces fashion the same way she does her poems: impactful, poise, and creative.

Now, as we close out 2021, Amanda Gorman debuts her latest poem titled “A New Day’s Lyric” on @Instagram for their global community of over 400 million followers. The ethereal and inspiring poem captures 2021 in verses that reflect on the lessons the year taught us, the importance of community, and the hopeful future we await. At the same time, Gorman’s penchant eye for fashion doesn’t go unnoticed in the video. Much like her Prada ensemble she wore for the Presidential Inauguration, which paid tribute to Dr. Jill Biden—her recent look tells a story in its own.

Gorman and her legendary stylist Jason Bolden opted for a stunning one-sleeve drop shoulder white gown for her performance. Knowing the symbolism Gorman and Bolden devote to her looks, we know there’s more here than just a chic dress. To start, the pristine pearl white color—perhaps a nod signifying a new beginning? The dress itself is designed by up-and-coming designer Cong Tri (who you may have seen donned by Rihanna, Beyonce, and Naomi Campbell.) The designer behind the eponymous label attributes his inspirations to the “resilience and strength” of Vietnam’s women soldiers in his home country. When faced with the adversity of this year, resilience and strength are both qualities the global community has gained and continue to grow as we enter 2022.

Peruse, Gorman’s cultural literacy and underlining style innuendos bring a sense of joy and hope. For this project, Amanda will be raising money for the International Rescue Committee in order to aid those affected by the coronavirus pandemic. Along with Amanda’s fundraiser, Meta (formerly known as Facebook) will be donating $50,000 to the organization.
