The 50th Telluride Film Festival, set against the majestic backdrop of Telluride, Colorado, has revealed its highly anticipated lineup. From August 31 to September 4, this cinematic extravaganza will showcase over eighty feature films, shorts, and revival programs hailing from twenty-nine countries. The festival promises a rich tapestry of filmmaker Tributes, Conversations, Seminars, Student Programs, and Festivities.

Highlights from the Main Program:

The festival’s Main Program, known as the SHOW, boasts an impressive selection of new feature films. Some of the notable entries include:

  • All of Us Strangers (d. Andrew Haigh, U.K., 2023)
  • American Symphony (d. Matthew Heineman, U.S., 2023)
  • Anatomy of a Fall (d. Justine Triet, France, 2023)
  • Anselm (d. Wim Wenders, Germany, 2023)
  • Baltimore (d. Joe Lawlor, Christine Molloy Ireland-U.K., 2023)
  • And many more, covering diverse genres and narratives.

Silver Medallion Awards:

The prestigious Silver Medallion Awards, recognizing significant contributions to cinema, will be presented to:

  • Greek filmmaker Yorgos Lanthimos (with Poor Things)
  • Italian writer-director Alice Rohrwacher (with La Chimera)
  • German filmmaker Wim Wenders (with Anselm and Perfect Days).

Documentary Shorts:

Four captivating documentary shorts make their way to the Main Program, including If Dreams Were Lightning by Ramin Bahrani and The Last Song from Kabul by Kevin Macdonald.

Guest Directors and Special Screenings:

In honor of its 50th anniversary, the festival features celebrated past guests as Guest Directors. Their selections include classics like All That Jazz presented by Ethan Hawke and The Long Good Friday selected by Adam Curtis.

Special Medallion and Restorations:

The Special Medallion is awarded to Martin Scorsese’s The Film Foundation for its preservation of essential films. Several film restorations will be screened, including Yam Daabo and Downpour.

Additional Highlights:

  • Special Screenings and Festivities, including Pedro Almodóvar’s short film Strange Way of Life and Agnès Varda’s art installation Patatutopia.
  • Backlot, an intimate screening room, showcases a diverse lineup of films and portraits of artists, musicians, and filmmakers.

Filmmakers of Tomorrow:

The shorts section, Filmmakers of Tomorrow, includes three programs: Student Prints, Calling Cards, and Great Expectations, featuring works from innovative and diverse filmmakers.

Student Programs and Talking Heads:

The festival’s Student Programs offer students unique experiences, while Talking Heads programs provide a behind-the-scenes look at cinema and culture.
