Just when we thought NYFW was over… Marc Jacobs drops a surprise collection.

It didn’t have a star-studded front row or dozens of looks parading down the a runway like his usual show spectacles, which were always presented on the last day of the fashion week calendar at a grand venue, like the Lexington Armory. Instead, two days after NYFW officially came to a close, the brand quietly dropped a 10-piece collection… on Instagram.

An email hit our inbox the same time the brand shared images on social media. No show notes were included, simply the title, “Marc Jacobs Runway 2022 collection,” along with images, each model’s name and the team’s styling credits.

The Hadid sisters opened the digital WeTransfer file, with Bella in a top made of black paillettes, with an oversize black denim jacket and matching long skirt. Gigi wore a similar high-shine paillette look in white washed denim. Other looks included fishnet-style draped dresses, puffer coats with matching puffer skirts, and cutout dresses in mummified fabrics.

Jacobs shared the images on her personal Instagram account writing, “happiness, continued.”

The brand has shown once since the pandemic hit, debuting the Fall 2021 line last June, in a collection Jacobs named, “Happiness.“ According to Vogue, his show notes read, “On the journey back to doing what we love most, in the wake of immeasurable loss, loneliness, fear, anxiety, and uncertainty, I am reminded of why creativity is so vital to our existence. To life.”

Before Jacbos’ surprise drop, the NYFW Fall 2022 season ended with Telfar Clemens, debuting two new collections in a bold new way all his own. In addition to showing new pieces in an epic runway presentation, Clemens also played episodes of Telfar TV, had a Wheel of Fortune-style giveaway wheel, and showed performance art for a full immersion experience.

What’s clear between Clemens and Jacobs is that closing out NYFW in ways creative, surprising and bold ways, like true visionaries do, will always be in style.
