French fashion designer Manfred
Thierry Mugler could easily be described as one of the most
influential designers of his generation. Passing away on Sunday at
the age of 73, the fashion industry
mourns the loss of yet another legend. Known for his surreal
and avant-garde designs, Mugler’s
opulent and theatrical runway presentations have gone down in
fashion history as some of the most iconic and important of their
time. Recently, his archives have seen a resurgence
with the likes of Beyoncé,
Cardi B, and
Kim Kardashian opting for his lavish and otherworldly garments.
Metallic breastplates, mile-high feathers,
extreme cut-outs, and women that sleuthed down the catwalk as
fantastical creatures, Mugler’s revolutionary runway shows could
transport you to another dimension.
