It seems the internet just loves making up a rumour on Zendaya and Tom Holland. Remember when the actress was apparently pregnant? Well now there are rumours circulating that the couple are engaged after a Twitter account announced the so-called news this week. While neither Zendaya or Holland have responded to the news (the Spider-Man alum doesn’t use social media) the actress’ mother has come to the rescue in a cryptic post on Instagram.

According to Page Six, Zendaya’s mum Claire Stoermer posted a definition of “clickbait” to her Instagram story on Wednesday. “Clickbait typically refers to the practice of writing sensationalised or misleading headlines in order to attract clicks on a piece of content,” it read. “It often relies on exaggerating claims or leaving out key information in order to encourage traffic. The term is generally used in a dismissive sense.”

Pop Hive announced the couple were engaged on Twitter – without naming a source or referencing evidence – after Us Weekly reported that they were “serious and permanent”. “They’re both in settling-down mode and are absolutely planning for a real future together,” an insider told the outlet last week.

The public’s fascination surrounding the relationship has proven to take a toll on Zendaya and Holland individually. In responding to a fake pregnancy report the Euphoria star wrote a statement that read: “See now, this is why I stay off Twitter…”

As for Holland he has kept his distance from social media, only returning to Instagram briefly to promote his charity organisation, The Brothers Trust. In a video from August, the 26-year-old explained why he was taking a hiatus from all platforms.

“So, I’m taking a break from social media for my mental health because I find Instagram and Twitter overstimulating, to be overwhelming,” he said. “I get caught up and I spiral when I read things about me online and ultimately it’s very detrimental to my mental state. So I’ve decided to take a step back and delete the app.”

The couple have been dating since July 2021 after they were spotted kissing at a red light in Los Angeles.
