World Mental Health Day, which falls on October 10, is a significant day in the region and around the world. Mental health should be a priority in our everyday routine as it dictates the direction of our lives, consisting of your mood, emotions and thoughts, it can greatly impact the lives of individuals, which is why it is so important to always keep it in check. One of the ways to take care of yourself mentally is to engage in wellness activities. Think yoga, talking therapy, calming activities, observation, self care and slowing down.

To mark the occasion of World Mental Health Day, GRAZIA highlights just some of the wellness activities happening in the UAE.

To eliminate myths and stigmas surrounding mental health, a unique webinar event titled “From Stigma to Understanding: Challenging Mental Health Myths” will be held on October 10. Organiser Dr. Saliha Afridi aims to increase empathy, understanding and support in the workplace and in daily life in general by educating people about various mental health difficulties, whether they are workers, employers or healthcare professionals. The age is for 18+ and it is a webinar.

On October 10, a number of ‘Reflect & Express’ events will take place at the most popular art museum in the world in honour of World Mental Health Day 2023. Both the free multidisciplinary performance film screening of This Body Is So Impermanent and a 45-minute Ride & Art spinning class are open to visitors. Participants in the Reflect & Express workshops will also get the opportunity to explore a variety of mental wellness issues through the use of multisensory art-making activities. The Louvre Abu Dhabi’s yoga sessions beneath the dome aim to connect the serene energy released by the sun, wind and sea.

Reverse Psychology Dubai

Compassion Focused, Acceptance & Commitment Therapy (C.FACT) is employed in this wellness event designed for women who have been or are undergoing divorce or separation in order to help them kindly navigate the range of emotions they may be feeling. It is run by Amarylis Harris. For October the dates are, October 24 and 31. For November the dates are, November 7, 14, 21 and 28. It is Dhs250 per session.

Following World Mental Health Day, an engaging series of events will be held at Dubai’s finest wellness establishment. On October 15, from 11am-12pm, a matcha morning will discuss the value of setting limits. Visitors will discover where and how to draw the line during this educational session, supervised by Connect Psychology. Moreover, later on same day, from 8pm-9pm, a Chai Chat will discuss letting go. The events will cost Dhs35 + VAT each session, which includes refreshments.
