Whether you’re looking to tick off some holiday spots or explore the UAE, maximising your days off is vital.

Putting our girl math hats on GRAZIA has worked out how you can avail the most days off by taking minimal annual leave. And given the UAE government announced the 2024 public holiday days in advance, planning ahead has never been easier.

According to our calculations, if you use 10 days of annual leave wisely, you’ll be able to avail 34 days off in 2024. Below, GRAZIA breaks down just how you can do this.

Of course, please note final date for the core public holidays are always determined by the sighting of the moon.

April: Turn 5 days of annual leave into 16

Eid Al Fitr days off: April 8 to 12 (plus two weekends)
Annual Leave Days: April 15 to 19 (plus the weekend)

Marking then end of the holy month Ramadan, Eid Al Fitr will bring an elongated break to employees in the public and private sectors. The current dates in the Gregorian calendar for the days off are April 8 to 12, which are book-ended by two weekends which means a total of 9 days off. Adding five days of annual leave from April 15 to 19, 2024, plus another weekend, will give you a total of 16 days off.

june: Turn 2 days off to 9 in June

Arafat Day and Eid Al Adha predicted public holidays: June 16 to 19 (plus the weekend)
Annual Leave Days: June 20 to 21 (plus the weekend)

Celebrating Mecca’s Hajj pilgrimage and the ‘Festival of Sacrifice’, Arafat Day and Eid Al Adha is another important Islamic holiday that takes place from Dhu Hijah 10 to 12, which equated to June 16 to 19, 2024 in the Gregorian calendar. If you take June 20 and 21 as annual leave, you can avail a total of nine days off.

December: Turn 3 days of annual leave into 9

Commemoration Day and UAE National Day: December 2 to 3 (plus the weekend)
Annual Leave Days: December 4 to 6 (plus the weekend)

The last few days off in the UAE for 2024 will fall on December 2 and 3, to mark Commemoration and UAE National Day, one of the most important public holidays for the emirates. According to GRAZIA’s calculations, if you take three annual leave days (December 4 to 6) you’ll avail a total of nine days off.

As previously mentioned, the official public holiday dates in the Gregorian calendar are confirmed by the sighting of the moon.
