The luxury house of Tod’s has always had knack for spotlighting its heritage through relaxed Italian styles and meticulous craftsmanship. As the country emerges from lockdown for its second summer under a new world order, it feels fitting to honour the season through a whimsical and ethereal lens.

In the lead up to Tod’s Fall/Winter 2021 womenswear show Walter Chiapponi had one specific goal for the forthcoming year: to deliver more “creativity and eccentricity than ever.” The result has seen the brand’s Shirt Bag interpreted by a series of artists and for the latest holiday season the art-fuelled theme continues.

Born from Milanese artist Andrea Tarella arrives Tod’s most spectacular campaign to-date: An Italian Summer. Surrealist illustrations and detailed designs provide the vibrant backdrop for the brand’s new releases. Colours of white, tan, sand with touches of navy and red make up much of the collection.

Footwear arrives in the form of reimagined espadrilles and casual slip-ons. Detailed macramè weaving collides with smooth leather, metallic sandals return and cork platform heels are a nod to more formal resort wear. And of course, the elegant and pared-back slide featuring contrast stitching finds a welcomed re-run.

In recent years, Tod’s has cemented its position as a master Maison of timeless IT-bags – the burgeoning ‘T’ hardware a quiet and ever-stylish icon. In an ode to the forthcoming season, the likes of the Timeless Crossbody, Oboe and Gommini Shopping Bag have seen a new series of treatments. Think macramé, fringing and blended cotton raffia replacing panels that are otherwise featured in buttery leather.

Bookending Tod’s homage to summer is a range of sunglasses: classic aviators, ’70s-style iteration with larger than life frames and more subdued round lenses. All pieces evoke the irresistible charm of an Italian summer dream.
