Following an incredible Bowie-esque Chanel look last week, Tilda Swinton once again stepped onto the Cannes Film Festival red carpet for the premiere of The French Dispatch in an ode to the rockstar. Known for her inimitable approach to style, Swinton was dressed in Haider Ackerman which saw a vibrant pink cropped tuxedo jacket teamed with an orange pencil skirt and green sequinned long-sleeved under layer. According to the namesake designer on Instagram, the look was inspired by… you guessed it… David Bowie.

But the 60-year-old star (whose performance in 2015 film A Bigger Splash I will never forget. If you know, you know), doesn’t consider herself a fashion icon. “Fashion is about finding a way of going into a very brightly lit space as a shy person and feeling like you’re not alone,” she told WWD of walking the red carpet. “In that moment, I’m fortunate enough to have my friends with me in a way, like Virginie or Karl Lagerfeld before.”

Swinton turned heads not just for her bold look, but her affectionate appearance with co-star Timothée Chalamet. The duo were seen on the red carpet hand-in-hand, with one moment going viral as Chalamet rested his head on Swinton’s shoulder (oh to be that shoulder).

Inside the theatre during the film’s massive nine-minute standing ovation, Swinton was caught executing a playful prank on the young actor, sticking her name place on his back.

Watch the moment below.

Swinton has had a long and illustrious career in Hollywood and is a proud recipient of an Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress in Michael Clayton. Following rave reviews for Wes Anderson’s latest project, she could be looking at another come awards season in 2022. For today, however, she’s flying the flag for the mature female actresses and their enduring red carpet elegance.
