Square Toe Trend 2021

We’re calling it the Bottega Veneta effect.

Creative director Daniel Lee debuted a sleek and delightfully absurd square-toed mule during his inaugural accessories collection at his first pre-fall 2019 show. From loafers to kitten heels and boots, we’ve seen an array of styles that have the fashion crowd going head over heels, making the return of the square toe heel a triumphant comeback.

You’ve probably seen your favourite celebrities and models rocking their square toe mules on the gram and styling it in their own unique way. From Rosie Huntington-Whiteley approaching the trend in a classic yet minimalistic way with a bodycon ribbed dress and neutral mule to Dua Lipa opting for a bold mule, adding a playful approach to her printed attire.

By the looks of it, it seems like these shoes aren’t going anywhere. At first, we were hesitant, but now, something has us gravitate toward the trend and appreciate its nostalgic flair and unique square-toe approach. Even Bottega Veneta’s peers were watching too. Square shapes quickly appeared at the latest shows of Off-White, Proenza Schouler, Andrea Wazen and many more brands. Following its next debut all over the 2020 NYFW runway, and continued during the Milan and Paris fashion week shows.

The square toe renaissance has begun, and there’s no stopping it now. Whether you’re into a preppy, minimalistic or edgy type of look, these square-toe styles can do no wrong. Ahead, find a selection of Grazia’s top picks from brands offering a unique iteration of the trend.
