Becoming the first female pilot in her family, Sheikha Mozah has received much-needed recognition and accolades for her commendable skills and now she aims to take young girls through her journey and inspire them.
For the 16th edition of the Emirates LitFest, Her Highness unveiled her latest project that takes readers on a flight to a land where possibilities are endless for young women. In her latest book, When She Took To The Sky, she celebrates all women who made their mark in aviation and space. From a woman’s initial attempts at conquering the skies using balloons to women exploring the heights using their courage, the book is divided into four sections that immerse the reader in the chronicles of aviation and space history.
Albeit, women have accomplished a multitude of achievements in recent times, Sheikha Mozah’s book touches on how women often had to prove their worth in establishing themselves in a greater sense. Breaking free from the shackles of patriarchy and stereotypes, women have gone above and beyond to achieve their dreams, no matter how big or small. Her book urges the same for the reader, to strive for the impossible.
Her book recounts the accomplishments of women, particularly that of Arab women who have paved a path for future generations through their legacy. Acting as a stepping stone for all things extraordinary, these women traversed straight through the stratosphere and into space, proving that perhaps the sky isn’t the limit – rather a concept created by the mind.
During the unveiling of her book, When She Took To The Sky, Sheikha Mozah revealed, “This book embodies a personal dream. Since childhood, I wanted to be a pilot and explore the world from the highest point, to be in constant touch with the creator’s innovations and the beauty of God’s creations… In this book, I invite everyone who reads it to follow their dream. There are no impossible dreams, only dreams for which we haven’t worked hard enough. I hope my book leaves an impact, not only on the dream of flying but on all ambitions in every field.”
Stepping in as a pioneer and a visionary for women all across the globe, Sheikha Mozah wants nothing more than for young women to reach for the stars and embark on erasing the limit.
