Well, if you ask me, I’d like to say that things are starting to look up this year. Not only did the Met Gala come in full swing and fulfil our hearts with the dreamiest red carpet looks, but Rihanna’s annual Savage X Fenty show has officially returned, featuring an array of our favourite models, performers and actors attending her highly anticipated show.

Earlier this week, Rihanna attending the Savage X Fenty red carpet at The Westin Bonaventure Hotel & Suites in Los Angeles wearing the dreamiest custom-made ensemble by Bottega Veneta. Rihanna really took the whole “sporty chic” outfit aesthetic to the next level (as Rihanna does). She opted for a lime green bedazzled dress, paired with a matching off-the-shoulder zip-up hoodie and Amina Muaddi heels to top off her look. Based on how cool this fit looked on Rihanna, I would say a very strong perhaps on my end.

Rihanna had an incredibly diverse selection of models strutting down the runway during her fashion show released on Amazon Prime last Friday. Last year, the star was called out on social media by people of the Muslim faith, saying it was ‘disrespectful’ to their religion. Rihanna immediately apologised and admitted it was a “huge oversight that was unintentionally offensive”, adding, “I would, more importantly, like to apologise for this honest yet careless mistake. We understand that we hurt many of our Muslim brothers and sisters, and I’m incredibly disheartened by this.”

Fast forward to 2021, Rihanna is caught in yet another significant backlash from her latest show where viewers are spotting a ‘culture appropriation’ by people who were upset by seeing fair models wearing braids. It seems like the entrepreneur can’t catch a break from negative commentary from the public. During her fashion show, models like Emily Ratajkowski and Vanessa Hudgens had their hair in braids, and the thought of it didn’t sit well with many – especially from the black community.

Rihanna has yet to respond to the latest criticism, but we will continue to update you as more information is released.
