Amidst an unprecedented storm in the UAE last week, authorities did their utmost to mitigate the impact of the sever weather conditions, immediately implementing disaster management systems and unveiling a series of reformative initiatives.

While disruption and destruction certainly ensued, many residents praised the country’s efficient response and outstanding service delivery in the aftermath of the storm.

However, not everyone was happy with the way things were handled. Saudi influencer, Sausan Alkadi, has recently come under fire for her negative remarks during the flooding in Dubai.

Taking to social media, the fashion and lifestyle guru posted a video of a crowded Dubai airport during the storm, calling the situation “disgusting” and chaotic, according to screenshots and screen recordings shared by Smashi Business.

“Look at the situation. I swear to God its chaos,” she wrote. “Nobody is responding, nothing. Look at the dirt, it’s disgusting. I was okay a few hours ago. Now I’m not okay. The situation is not normal,” she continued.

In a leaked Snapchat conversation, per Smashi Business, Sausan also criticised the UAE government, saying she was disappointed in the lack of government entities on the scene. “I used to think the UAE was on top of everything but today it disappointed me. I didn’t see any police car or ambulance helping out.”

“You have failed in managing disasters. What would you do if you had a war in the UAE?” she critiqued in another post.

Per Smashi Business, the UAE’s General Authority for Media has now reportedly summoned the Saudi internet sensation in light of these unfavourable claims. At the same time, Sausan has received backlash from the UAE community, with many internet users calling for her to be banned from ever re-entering the country, and for the brands she works for to cut ties with her.

“An insult to us as Emiratis, is an insult to security personnel and belittlement of our status, and our ability to manage crises,” said one user, while another user called her comments “insults, defamation, and attacks.”

Sausan has since been quiet on social media, with the outcome of her summons still yet to be seen.

This is a developing story.
