On Monday, Her Majesty Queen Rania attended the 2023 Hope Gala Fundraising event held at King Hussein Cancer Foundation in Amman. Under the patronage of Their Majesties King Abdullah II and Queen Rania, the fundraising event drives to establish cancer-specialised centres across the country under the banner of the King Hussein Cancer Center to aid in battling cancer across the country. For the event, Queen Rania wore a custom ensemble from Elie Saab Spring/Summer 2023 Couture Collection. She paired the gown with a custom Jennifer Chamandi ‘Le 8’ clutch in blue satin, which she wore to her daughter, Her Royal Highness Princess Iman’s wedding. On the clutch, Princess Iman’s name is written in Arabic calligraphy, reading ‘Imany.’ The term has two meanings ‘My Iman’ or ‘My Faith.’

As part of the ongoing efforts, the foundation has funded three new upcoming facilities, including the King Abdullah II Ibn Al Hussein Building in Aqaba, as well as two other structures in Amman dedicated to cancer research and pediatric treatment. The KHCC, the cancer hospital, was founded in 1997 by the late King Hussein. Initially, it was named the Al-Amal Centre, but later the hospital was renamed in honour of the late King, who passed away from complications related to cancer. The centre treats over 3,500 patients including children from the region every year. The King Hussein Cancer Foundation was later established as a non-government, non-profit organisation to aid in battling cancer in Jordan as well as the Middle East region.
