It’s been a nonstop drama-filled year for Olivia Wilde, who, fresh off the back of surviving the most scandalous film premiere of the year, Don’t Worry Darling (and proving she’s very much still dating Harry Styles despite the internet’s best attempts), has been hit with more bad headlines.

This time? It’s her and her ex-husband Jason Sudeikis’ former nanny speaking out to The Daily Mail.

Yesterday, Wilde and Sudeikis released a joint statement accusing their children’s former nanny of “false and scurrilous accusations,” that included allegations about Styles and Wilde’s relationship ending her marriage to Sudeikis and some frankly incredible sentences about Wilde’s salad dressing-making abilities.

Following the latest instalment of drama, Wilde couldn’t stay holed up at home. Instead, she had an event to attend and a speech to give.

Standing on stage at the Elle Women in Hollywood celebration, Wilde addressed the crowd, speaking about going through “burning hellfire” in the industry, saying, “Let’s face it, it’s not always easy to keep going.”

“In fact, sometimes it’s tempting to excuse ourselves from the burning hellfire of the misogyny that defines this business and say, ‘Good night, good luck, I’d rather eat glass for a living,’” she continued.

Wilde clarified that she still feels “energised” and “motivated to keep fighting” through the hellfire, explaining, “It often takes the form of a tight grip of your shoulders and an intense stare into your eyes and a defiant, ‘Do not let them f–k with you.’”

“No matter how much the patriarchy relies on us to cut each other down in order to weaken our collective power, we have to resist the urge to play by their self-serving rules,” she continued.

Addressing the social media hate she’s received of late, Wilde said, “I was an actress who started producing and then finally got the courage to start directing, and I wouldn’t have started any of it at all if I knew Twitter would be invented.” Before adding, “But here I am. It’s a real thrill to have what is undeniably the greatest job on the planet.”

She ended her speech by making fun of the drama surrounding her Don’t Worry Darling press tour, saying, “Let’s face it: You are not a woman in Hollywood until you’ve begged to be placed into a medically induced coma until your press tour is finished,” she said. “Until then, you are just a woman residing in or around the Hollywood area.”

Once again, a perfect example of Wilde’s ‘when they go low, we go high’ mentality (and a second perfect red carpet look this week alone).
