Sofia Carson MTV Movie & TV Award

Amidst the insurgence of Hollywood’s writers guild of America going on strike the past week, the MTV Movie & TV Awards returned this year albeit with huge changes. With stars withdrawing from the award in solidarity with the strike, such as host Drew Barrymore, the award did not have a traditional ceremony this year. Executive Producer Bruce Gillmer shared that the awards were “pivoting away from a live event” in a statement to CNN. Instead, a pre-taped version of the ceremony was aired on Sunday. The organisers honoured the incredible movie and TV productions from last year and ensured that the coveted golden popcorn made its way to the MTV Movie & TV award winners. One of the major highlights of the show was The White Lotus‘ Jennifer Coolidge receiving the Comedic Genius Award previously awarded to Jack Black, Sacha Baron Cohen, Will Ferrell Melissa McCarthy, and Kevin Hart, after a decade of wooing the audience through movies and TV shows. Accepting the award, Jennifer jested that “it’s just ironic that this award would be made of my favourite food, popcorn.” Cult favourite TV Shows Wednesday and The Last of Us, and blockbuster film Top Gun: Maverick joined Stranger Things and The White Lotus for the most nominated scripted content. Find the entire list of MTV Movie & TV Awards 2023 winners below.
