Unless you’re living under a rock, you’ve watched or at least heard of Netflix’s latest hit series, Wednesday, based on Wednesday Addams, and is a spin-off of the “Addams Family.” Directed by Tim Burton, the series is now the second most streamed English show on Netflix, surpassing one billion total hours viewed. Wednesday herself is played by Jenna Ortega, and the world is falling in love with her, one gothic outfit at a time. But what we can’t help but admire the most about Ortega isn’t her heavy eyeliner or long pigtails; it’s her bold and unapologetic solidarity for marginalised communities around the world.

Just search her profile on Twitter, and right there pinned to the very top for all her one million followers to see are the words “We must never give up on the people of Ukraine, Yemen, Palestine, Kashmir, Iraq, Syria…”

Not only did vocalise her support for the victims of these countries, but she also went on to ask her followers to share resources and links so that effective action is taken.

Ortega is not the first to show solidarity to the people of Palestine, a country which has in particular faced an unfortunate vow of silence from the world. Among the list is the outspoken Bella Hadid and her family, Emma Watson, Mark Ruffalo, John Legend, Natalie Portman and several more.
