Take a step back in time to the golden era for many to the 1970s with Messika’s newest high jewellery collection.

It was an era for breaking all the rules and reinventing the essence of fashion and self-expression, which is exuded in Valérie Messika’s 10th high jewellery collection, Midnight Sun.

Think the electric vibes of Studio 54 to the underground allure of the Mudd Club, creative director Valérie drew upon inspiration from the unyielding spirit of those wild nights in the ’70s celebrating a time of boundless possibilities. To embody this electric collection, the iconic French singer and model, Carla Bruni, takes centre stage as the face of Midnight Sun.

Valerie herself described the collection as showcasing a “fascinating” part of history.

“The night spots of the time were culminating point of all the antagonisms and extravagances,” she added. “Spaces far from conventions, whose hypnotic spirit continues to be a source of inspiration and desire. Who better than the magnetic Carla Bruni to embody this electric and daring theme?”

Central to the collection are yellow diamonds – symbolic of the kings and queens of the night. Comprising five themes and jewellery sets, each piece in the Midnight Sun collection has been inspired by legendary figures of the time, including disco queen Diana Ross, enigmatic rock star Freddie Mercury and pop art figurehead Andy Warhol.

The collection features an array of multifaceted designs that play with light and contrast, showcasing the Maison’s mastery of diamonds, in particularly shining a light on the yellow diamond. The entire high jewellery collection is comprised of five themes and jewellery sets, with each piece inspired by the icons of the time – Andy Warhol, Diana Ross, Liza Minnelli, just to name a few.

One particular standout is the ‘Ultimate Party’ set which draws directly from singing icons Diana Ross and Liza Minnelli. The necklace in the set, worn by Carla in the campaign, features 20.04 pear-cut yellow diamond next to a 9.04-carat cushion-cut diamond.
