Just when you thought the Don’t Worry Darling drama was over – given 40 crew members signed a statement saying rumours of on-set screaming matches between the film’s lead, Florence Pugh, and director, Olivia Wilde, were false – one of its stars, KiKi Layne, has entered the chat.
The actress, who plays Margaret, one of the wives of The Victory Project alongside Pugh, Wilde, Gemma Chan, Sydney Chandler and Kate Berlant, took to Instagram to claim that most of her scenes from the movie were unexpectedly cut. Which… perhaps explains why she was absent from the red carpet in Venice and later, New York…
“The best thing about #DontWorryDarling is that I was lucky enough to meet @arielstachel,” the actress, 30, wrote of her co-star – and now boyfriend! – Ari’el Stachel, who plays her on-screen husband in the film, Ted.
“They cut us from most of the movie, but we thriving in real life,” she alleged, adding the hashtags “#GotMyCheck #GotMyMan #EverythingHappensForAReason.”
Stachel, who commented on Layne’s post writing, “You are a queen and your talent shines so bright,” also added his own tribute to her on his own Instagram, writing, “My favourite part of my experience in Don’t Worry Darling. This woman did phenomenal work and I was thirsty the second I met her.”
Stachel later uploaded a TikTok compilation of tweets from fans saying he should have been in the movie more. One wrote, “I have some thoughts about Don’t Worry Darling, but the most vital is that Ari’el Stachel is not in it enough!!,” while another read, “The man has a Tony! Give him more than two lines Olivia Wilde!”
The Tony-winning actor wrote over the top, “When you end up on the cutting room floor. Go see Don’t Worry Darling.”
Given Harry Styles’ (pretty bad) acting has been the subject of many of the DWD reviews thus far, perhaps Wilde could’ve cast Stachel — a, you know, real Tony-winning actor — in that space, instead?
Also, after seeing the film last night, I can attest firsthand to the fact that Layne was incredible in her role and really, really should’ve featured more.
But in the end, getting a gorgeous relationship out of a movie is a pretty Hollywood ending. We ship.
