It’s hard to pinpoint exactly when and why it happened, but bottom lashes fell out of fashion around the same time as skinny brows. For years, top lashes have gotten all the attention (curled, coated, conditioned) while for the majority of us, the lower lash line has remained untouched – a mere supporting act to any eye look.

But if there’s one person who can convince us to try otherwise, it’s JLo. The actress and singer posted a throwback shot on Instagram yesterday from the set of her hit 2002 album, This Is Me. There’s all the hallmarks of a ’00s era JLo: frosted lipgloss, a layered cut and babydoll blush. She’s also wearing a heavy set of false lashes on her bottom line, a detail makeup artist Michael Anthony even calls out in the comments.

Wearing a false lash on the lower half of your eye isn’t common as it can look fake against naturally short or sparse hairs. But JLo has done so with confidence and style. The end result is youthful, cute and slightly retro, especially when paired with that iconic swipe of blue liner.
