This year marks the second consecutive year where the Holy Month of Ramadan is taking place during the pandemic; a pandemic that has had rippling effects globally; a pandemic that has exacerbated already stringent economic disparities for communities around the world.

Along with fasting, Ramadan encourages Muslims (and people in general) to engage more with their community, to practice compassion, to help those in need and generally, to give more. And this year is no different.

Beauty mogul Huda Kattan is one of the influencers out there that is using her platform for good and setting an example by taking part in the 100 Million Meals initiative, which was launched by the UAE in collaboration with the Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Humanitarian and Charity Establishment, Food Banking Regional Network, and the United Nations World Food Programme, among others.

Posting a video to her Instagram page this week to announce her participation in the campaign, Huda is seen wishing her 2.2 million followers a happy Ramadan followed by a brief description of the initiative. She explains that the initiative “is taking part in the UN’s sustainable development goal of ending hunger by 2030” and shares that Huda Beauty has donated one million meals.

The entrepreneur goes on to share information about world hunger and says that “every 10 seconds a child dies because of hunger. Hunger and malnutrition claim more lives than Tuberculosis and Malaria combined. This initiative is so incredible and it just is a reminder about how each and every single one of us has the power to make a change.”

100 Million Meals is part of the Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum Global Initiatives. During the Holy Month, the initiative aims to ensure that 100 million meals are set up to provide aid for communities hit by malnutrition and hunger in over 20 countries around the world. It initially started as the 10 million meals campaign, which was a UAE initiative that sought to provide hunger relief for those hard-hit by the COVID-19 pandemic.

By donating from anywhere in the world, people are afforded several options with Dhs10 being the equivalent of 10 meals, Dhs50 the equivalent of 50 meals, Dhs100 for 100 meals and so on.
