Stanley Kubrick needs no introduction, and neither do The Shining twins and their piercing glares. However, If you don’t know of him or his artistry, now is the time because Gucci just released a new campaign, photographed by Mert & Marcus, for their Autumn/Winter 2022 collection in collaboration with Adidas called ‘Exquisite,’ inspired by his films. The campaign replicates iconic scenes from Kubrick’s movies such as The Shining, Eyes Wide Shut featuring Nicole Kidman and Tom Cruise, 2001: A Space Odyssey and more. Kubrick is deemed to be one of the greatest filmmakers of all time, due to his effortless ability to metamorphose among all genres from: period dramas, sci-fi, war-films and the most notable horror movies. He was able to experiment with varying genres without losing his distinctive sense-of-style and a unique ability to merge his contrasting ideologies through striking visuals.

Alessandro Michelle, Creative Director of Gucci, has expressed that his love for Kubrick movies is long-standing, Michelle further stated “As an act of love, I decided to reinhabit Kubrick’s films, pushing to the core this incendiary approach. I took the liberty of disassembling, blending, grafting and reassembling them. Sticking to my creative praxis, I seized those movies, resemanticising them, populating them with my clothes.”

Michelle has not only paid tribute to Kubrick’s masterpieces, he has also partnered up with Warner Bros and Academy Award-winning costume designer Milena Canonero, who worked with the director in several films, to truly encapsulate his essence and embed it into the campaign effortlessly which ensued from their expertise. Along with the campaign, Gucci has released a short film to truly solidify the merge of Gucci’s eclectic universe and Kubrick’s artistic vision together. Classic scenes are replicated with models who look like the original cast, in similar environments, sporting the new Adidas x Gucci merchandise.
