To celebrate the upcoming Lunar New Year (also known as The Chinese New Year or The Spring Festival), luxury fashion houses have created collections featuring ready-to-wear, accessories, and fragrances that will be available ahead of the symbolic new moon, which rises on January 22nd this year.

These luxury brands are paying homage to The Lunar New Year 2023’s Zodiac Rabbit, which will be ushered in on the 22nd, replacing 2022’s fierce Zodiac Tiger. The Year of the Rabbit symbolises peace, adaptability, and elegance–a departure from the Tiger’s prowess and productivity. This gentler Lunar New Year has inspired minimalistic luxury collections made with subdued colours and attention to detail. Discover all of the fashion houses paying homage to The Lunar New Year 2023’s Year of the Rabbit ahead.

Max Mara

To honour The Year of the Rabbit, Max Mara released a capsule of ready-to-wear women’s clothing, all in the colour red to symbolise good fortune for the new year. The brand paired the capsule with a Chinese New Year campaign that narrates the story of Max, a rabbit who longs to sing and, with plenty of persistence, finds a band of fishermen to play with at a seaside restaurant. The cutesy narrative and collection of rabbit-themed red clothing was a creative way to celebrate the passing of time and reminds us that this period is one of positive new beginnings.

Maje

French womenswear brand, Maje, created a capsule collection in honour of the Lunar New Year, using ultra-soft materials, baby pink hues, and holiday-inspired prints. To make the celebration even bigger, the brand partnered with a Paris-based Chinese illustrator, Jiayi Li, who communicated the collection through her art. When asked about the Chinese New Year design she created for the brand, Jiayi Li shared that she tried to invoke “the lifelike and poetic scenes of Chinese mythology and capture some spontaneous moments that occur during the celebration.” For her, Maje, “fits well with the definition of a popular Chinese term « 氛围感 » which is a laid back charisma that doesn’t sprout from being overly dressed up, a very natural and effortless charisma.”

The campaign was launched in honour of the 2023 Lunar New Year and focuses on the beautiful moments in life. This message is conveyed by photographer Nick Yang’s images of the campaign’s talent Cai Xukun, Chunxia (pictured above), Bai Yufan, Du Juan, who posed with important items from their past, like a telephone and a camera (not pictured above). The talent is also posed with the new Prada Moon bag, which is part of a more expansive Prada collection of men’s and women’s ready-to-wear, bags, footwear and accessories made in honour of The Lunar New Year 2023.
