MILAN, ITALY: Lily Aldridge walks through Weekend Max Mara’s showroom like a well-dressed frequent flyer; three-piece white linen suit, perennial tan, holiday glow. The supermodel has partnered with the Italian luxuriate to work on a new Weekend Max Mara signature collection, From Lily With Love – like a postcard sign-off, almost – and it’s really, really beautiful.

Inspired by her English illustrator father, California-born Aldridge takes me through the many different playful, psychedelic patterns that make up this new and sophisticated 70s-esque collection. A lover of travel myself, I instantly gravitate towards a silky, slinky red and black printed pyjama set.

“I feel like this duo could be both a really chic plane outfit and one you could wear to dinner with a lipstick,” I muse.

“That is what this whole collection is about,” Aldridge says, the showroom light literally bouncing off her left cheekbone. “It’s about day to night, mix and matching, travelling, having fun and being able to pack everything that you need.

“They are just really easy, wearable, fun, effortless pieces,” she adds.

Aldridge says the process of model to maker with Weekend Max Mara began with three-piece suits, one of which she is wearing today.

“We then experimented with colours and patterns and focused on expressing the different parts of my style from the more refined suits to the more rock n’ roll part of me,” she says gesturing to a denim vest.  (Aldridge is married to Kings Of Leon frontman Caleb Followill.)

Made for the streets and the sand, elegant suiting is mixed in with feminine floaty dresses, bishop-sleeved blouses, silk scarves and shoes.

Of working with the family-run company, Aldridge says, “Weekend Max Mara was such a great company to work with. They were super collaborative, super generous, super supportive and super fun. They were super everything!”

Weekend Max Mara From Lily With Love will be available early 2023. Take a tour inside the showroom below.
