Throughout his time in space, Emirati astronaut Sultan Al Neyadi shared numerous photographs of the region from above the atmosphere.

His most recent post was a tribute to the Palestinian people who are “experiencing unspeakable pain and destruction”, sharing a snap of the Gaza strip from space. The Emirati astronaut shared a poignant message alongside the post, highlighting his hopes for “people to all”.

“Space reminded me that there are no real borders separating countries and cultures,” he began.

He went on to note that “humanity transcends borders” and that it is mankind who draws the “lines on the map”.

“A few months ago, I captured this photo of the Gaza strip, a place that is experiencing unspeakable pain and destruction,” he attested. “The footage on the ground is devastating.”

Since the outbreak of the conflict between Israel and Gaza, the death toll in the Palestinian region now surpasses 11,000, as access to water, food and electricity remains restrained.

“Wishing safety and peace to all,” Al Neyadi added.

Sultan Al Neyadi’s return from space

The Emirati astronaut arrived safely back to Earth in September after being in space for six months.

It was a 17-hour journey back to Earth from the International Space Station (ISS) for Al Neyadi, alongside the rest of the Crew-6 mission which included NASA astronauts Stephen Bowen and Woody Hoburg and Roscosmos cosmonaut Andrey Fedyaev.

Al Neyadi’s return to safe arrival back to Earth was announced by the Mohammed bin Rashid Space Centre (MBRSC), as well as his fellow Emirati astronaut colleagues.
