The Earthshot Prize was founded back in October 2020 by Prince William and The Royal Foundation. Since then it has been steadfastly working towards one goal: repair our planet. Each year, the council members, including Prince William, Her Majesty Queen Rania of Jordan, Cate Blanchett, Jack Ma and several other changemakers are working together to decide on the recipient of the most prestigious environmental award to come into existence at Dubai’s Expo 2020. Between 2021 and 2030, the foundation and its council will award five winners with The Earthshot Prize. Five prizes valued at one million pounds each will be awarded over the next ten years, “providing at least 50 solutions to the world’s greatest environmental problems by 2030.”

Her Majesty has previously expressed how humbled she is to be part of such a great cause. She shared a video to her Instagram account announcing her growing concern for the environment at its current state. However, Her Majesty is still hopeful in successfully overcoming the damage caused to the environment through like-minded individuals, working together to find solutions to fix the issues at hand. Prince William arrived in Dubai on the 9th of February and expressed his gratitude and admiration towards his regal hosts and his passion to offer such environmental change to the planet through The Earthshot prizes.

His Highness Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed shares a photo during his meeting with the Duke of Cambridge, where they discuss a promising future between the two powerful nations. This could be a momentous moment in history and was Prince William’s first of hopefully many future trips to the UAE.

A mesmerizing picture of the UAE skyline posted on the Duke’s Instagram read, ‘Excited to be arriving in Dubai to celebrate the UK at @expo2020dubai and discuss the vital issue of working together with the UAE and international partners to achieve a more sustainable world with @earthshotprize and @unitedforwildlife.’

On the commencement of his visit, Prince William took a tour of the Jubail Mangrove, one of the most beautiful educational and leisure destinations of Abu Dhabi. He met Sheikh Khaled bin Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, member of the Abu Dhabi Executive Council and chairman of Abu Dhabi Executive Office at the ecological sanctuary, commemorating the Abu Dhabi Mangrove Initiative that centres sustainability and preservation of nature. While at the conservation centre, the Duke had a motivating talk with a group of children inspiring them to plant more trees and to become the future of tomorrow. With such leading world figures and powerful nations joining forces the possibilities of creating a better future are looking hopeful and a great motivation for the rest of the nations to follow such great examples.
