Rather than embrace the kaleidoscopic prints or “groovy” silhouettes of yore, Lipa is putting her signature slinky spin on the era and looking to one of the biggest beauty trends of 2023 to do so.
While attending local radio stations, Lipa put her pop star spin on cherry cola lips by injecting the saccharine trend into fashion’s lexicon.
The beauty trend emerged during the Northern Hemisphere’s summer as a darker antidote to quintessential Americana, drawing inspiration from cherry cola soft drinks. The trend boasts over 79.3 million views on TikTok, but the Lana Del Rey-influenced look was never explored in a sartorial form until now.
Lipa leaned into the burgundy palette with a buttery-leather Bottega Veneta pouch and glossy Bordeaux croc boots. Taking cues from Princess Diana’s royal-on-the-run style, the recent Barbie star tucked a pair of light-wash denim into the calf-grazing boots.
Lipa completed the look with a Jim Morrison-esque white fur coat, combining elements of the golden age of Rock’n’Roll with her trademark Future Nostalgia fashion taste. A look that is both contemporary yet influenced by heritage aesthetics.
Lipa’s first official outing under the ‘DL3’ mode—a term her fans have coined in reference to her next body of work—came in late October.
