Kayla Trivieri, @ktrivs online, is sharing her ongoing deep dive into NFTs on TikTok in her viral series, “NFTs for Hot Girls.” In her videos, Kayla empowers viewers with yassified breakdowns about innovations in the digital space, elucidating that there are no dumb questions. She addresses her commenters’ inquiries about NFTs and expands into topics like cryptocurrency, green technology practices and blockchain.

Her approach to tech differs from the prescriptive, “buy this and get rich quick” videos you can typically find on TikTok. She calls people in instead and breaks down to the basics of popular concepts – leaving the jargon used to gatekeep people from understanding behind. “When you break it down, you realize this stuff is really straightforward,” Kayla shared with Grazia, “anyone can do it.”

Kayla is a tech consultant at IBM and is privy to the rapid innovations happening in the digital space. She noticed a growing interest in NFTs and, on a whim, decided to make her first viral video teaching her followers about what she knew. She has grown a following of over 200K since then and noted that this “audience is mostly women who want to learn about NFTs, blockchain, and crypto.” She noted that the idea of addressing her audience as “Hot Girls” “breaks down the stereotype that it’s only nerdy men who work in tech.” Kayla added that “there are so many opportunities for women to step into the field – any girl is a hot girl, and they should feel empowered and welcomed into this space.”

She argues that “the opportunities in tech are not being taken advantage of enough by women.” Speculating that it could be intimidating since, “in meetings, you’re sometimes the only woman in the room. The same is true for people from marginalized backgrounds.” Broadening the perception of tech and making people feel welcome is important to Kayla, since “there are roles in tech for any industry that you’re interested in.” Examples include building aesthetic websites, reading data for smart marketing, using augmented reality to drive beauty sales, and exploring the potential of fashion and virtual reality. For NFTs in particular, there are opportunities to try exciting new approaches to sales. Examples include singers releasing new music as NFTs and designers dropping limited edition collections for people with a special code you could receive with an NFT purchase.

The possibilities under the umbrella of tech are growing, and it’s wise to encourage girls, gays and theys of all backgrounds to be involved. The digital spaces being developed today will become the functional and aesthetic landscapes of tomorrow. That’s what makes the “call-in” nature of Kayla’s videos so compelling. Her approach poses a solution to jargon and gatekeeping and ultimately fosters a community of active learners. Whether or not you follow her guide to making NFTs or advice on lowering your digital footprint (yes, that’s a thing), you can be involved in the conversation.
