As Saudi Arabia celebrates its 91st national day, I can’t help but feel nostalgic of the country I called home for most of my life. When people ask me where I grew up, saying Saudi Arabia always gave me a sense of pride. The land of promise and opportunity, the land where almost anything and everything was possible, what other place would I have rather grown up?

From the serene silence of the deserts and dunes to the busy bustle and chatter in the city; from the sea salt tickling your skin to the skyscrapers staring down at you – there really is not a single thing missing in Saudi Arabia.

Growing up, I witnessed a life filled with rich culture and traditions that not many were possibly fortunate to have. It’s difficult to formulate into words what Saudi Arabia means to me, so rather than doing that I asked a few Saudi citizens to share what their country means to them, and what they’re most excited about for the future of Saudi Arabia.

“Saudi is my home. What I’m most excited about is that I can now fairly rival men in the workforce because I am valued as a woman, and I am proud to see how my country is pushing to drive women forward in every aspect.”
“I’m so proud and grateful for being a Saudi citizen, I cannot express my gratitude for all the privileges that we are given. What I am most excited about is the endless opportunities I am presented in this land, whether I want to be a female race car driver or a business owner – I can be anything I want in Saudi. I can be myself.”
“I cannot explain what my country means to me, I’d rather have you visit it and see its beauty for yourself. We have so much to offer and I’m so happy that the world is finally getting the chance to see it all.”
“A few years ago we didn’t imagine Saudi being the place it is today. Now, we have Neom, Al Ula, the Red Sea Cruise and so much more. But if I had to choose one thing I love the most about my country, it would be our traditions and hospitality. No country is comparable.”
“Saudi is home to me – a place where my tradition and culture is celebrated, where I am endlessly inspired, where I am loved and supported amongst my fellow brothers and sisters. I’m excited about the future of my nation because I am pushed to be that driving force of change amongst my generation.”
