As Abu Dhabi gears up to host the long-awaited F1 Abu Dhabi Grand Prix, McLaren and BAT are bringing their very own futurist twist on race car livery. The upcoming free-spirited design emblazoned on the McLaren Racing’s F1 race car livery is the world’s first of its kind, designed by Egyptian-born artist Rabab Tantawy.

“This opportunity is a dream I didn’t know I had, especially as it is something that has never been done before, having a piece of the original art featured on a livery during a Formula 1 Grand Prix. The artwork is very relevant to my roots and where I come from, but it is also relevant to everyone else across the globe,” said Tantawy. “It is an amazing opportunity to shine a spotlight on my work and its message.”

Part of the BAT Vuse and McLaren’s Driven by Change campaign, the new initiative recognizes the impressive works of Arab talent with the motorcar’s feature in Abu Dhabi. The design you are to witness in the upcoming race was six months in the making and is based on the artist’s Nubian series, to portray “the power and beauty of union” and put creative regional artists on the global map.
