It’s synonymous with celebrities, high-profile parties, and patrons flooding social media with selfies containing a big Ferris wheel in the background.

But for 2020, Coachella wants to be known for its environmental endeavours, and has released details of how the general public can get involved.

Taking to Instagram, the iconic music festival which kicks off on April 10, shared that this year, it is asking everyone to “keep the desert green, clean and beautiful” and has teamed up with Global Inheritance to try and reduce its environmental impact.

It is also running a competition to design a Coachella recycling bin by February 14, and selected artists will receive passes to the festival so they can see their creations in action.

Coachella has also teamed up with Everybody World, a brand that creates clothing from recycled materials, to create its line of official merch.

Inspired by the desert, the line of three hoodies have been made using 100 percent recyclable cotton and 100 percent biodegradable fleece, and will be available exclusively from the Coachella Instagram shop.

And whatever your feelings about the festival itself, you have to applaud its commitment to being a positive force for change when it comes to making music festivals more eco-friendly.
