A growing consciousness about the need to help protect the planet means many of us are turning to our wardrobes to more sustainable solutions. But others wanting to go the extra mile are turning their attention to their choice of vehicle. We all know how detrimental petrol-based cars are to the environment, however the pull for electric-based (EVs) vehicles is ever-growing – and BMW is very aware about this need for change.

GRAZIA took the brand’s first fully electric BMW i7 out for the weekend to see first-hand just how slick sustainable cars can be. The verdict? A combination of super-slick electric performance meets multi-sensory entertainment for a totally unforgettable driving experience.

Some of our favourite functions include the drop-down TV in the backseat, so you can Netflix and chill all the way to your destination. The ability to dial the volume up or down via just waving your finger in the air is dangerously fun and addictive – oh, and did we mention the entire sound spectrum was developed by two-time Academy Award winning composer Hans Zimmer? Casj.

The i7 offers an estimated fully electric driving range of 600km, of which it travels almost completely in silence. The perfect resort to visit for your sustainable weekender? Six Sesnes Zigy Bay, of course.

Six Sesnes Zigy Bay is barefoot luxury at its finest – utterly idyllic, blissfully secluded and is leading the sustainability charge with eco-friendly offerings on the island, including plastic-free, zero waste and organic farming. As part of their carbon neutral pledge, the resort has also partnered with Co2nsensus to donate $10 (Dhs35) per night to a wind power plant based to offset international travelers’ flights to the resort.

The hotel itself boasts 82 stone villas, which are set among date palms, pomegranate trees, and wandering sandy paths that are accessible via your own private bikes that are awaiting you at your villa. They grow all their own herbs and vegetables here, alongside producing all of their own drinking water. Other F&B offerings you don’t want to miss include the Arabian-inspired fare at the Spice Market; Sumer House for Mediterranean-influenced dishes; and the infamous Land & Sea extravaganza, which is a surf and turf style buffet with live cooking stations right down on the beach. And you’re worried about keeping boredom at bay, fear not, this hotel plays hosts to a whole heap of activities, from tennis to archery to paragliding.

The 75-mile journey from Dubai airport takes around two hours, and the hotel offers 10 complimentary electric charging points available for guests traveling in hybrid or electrical car, so your BMW i7 can be instantly charged up on arrival.
